From July 2026, Reefworld introduces a new era of overnight Great Barrier Reef experiences, combining upgraded facilities, premium dining and exclusive access to one of the Whitsundays’ most iconic outer reef locations. Positioned 39 nautical miles offshore at Hardy Reef, Reefsleep Premium offers guests the rare opportunity to spend the night surrounded by the Coral Sea, sleeping beneath the stars on a floating pontoon in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

This adventure takes you to sleep on the reef, on a floating pontoon in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, offering an intimate connection with the marine world beneath the stars. This Great Barrier Reef overnight tour departs from Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island or Daydream Island aboard a high-speed catamaran travelling through the Whitsunday Passage to Reefworld at Hardy Reef. With a maximum of just 36 overnight guests, the experience feels peaceful and far removed from the mainland.

Whitsundays Reefsleep Tour

Your Great Barrier Reef tour will have you cruising on board a fast catamaran to a floating pontoon in the middle of the sea.

This interactive floating pontoon in the Whitsundays on the Great Barrier Reef is your gateway to an exhilarating marine adventure and your home for the next two days with our new sleep on the reef tour.

On arrival, Reefworld operates as a full reef activity platform where guests can snorkel directly from the pontoon, join guided snorkel safaris, take a semi-submersible reef tour, add an introductory or certified scuba dive, or experience the reef from above on an optional scenic helicopter flight.

Dining is a major highlight of the Reefsleep Premium experience. Guests enjoy a premium seafood lunch upon arrival, followed later by sunset cocktails and canapés overlooking the reef. In the evening, a chef-designed three-course à la carte dinner is served featuring seasonal North Queensland produce paired with premium Australian wines.

As night settles over the Coral Sea, overnight guests retreat to newly redesigned deluxe Reefbeds located on the upper deck of the pontoon. These open-air reef beds combine the comfort of luxury glamping with uninterrupted ocean views, offering a rare chance to sleep beneath the stars surrounded only by reef, sea and night sky. 

The following morning begins with breakfast overlooking Hardy Reef, followed by more time to snorkel, relax on the pontoon or simply enjoy the stillness of the outer Great Barrier Reef before a two-course farewell lunch is served prior to returning to shore. 

 

Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef

Snorkelling takes place directly from the pontoon over coral gardens and reef walls filled with tropical marine life.

Guests regularly encounter colourful reef fish, giant clams, rays, sea turtles and the famous resident giant groper known as George, who is well known for swimming alongside snorkellers.

All snorkelling equipment and flotation devices are included, with assistance available for beginners and less confident swimmers.

Optional Snorkelling Safari

After experiencing the colour and beauty of the coral fantasyland beneath, you may thirst for a little more undersea knowledge about the greatest living organism on the planet!

With a guided snorkelling safari on the Great Barrier Reef, you’ll not only see some phenomenal marine life, but hear a few riveting stories about them too!

You’ll be shown various coral formations, where your expert guide will know how to locate and interact with many weird and wonderful creatures that live amongst these coral gardens.

This is a sensory delight for both the eyes and mind, especially when you see a towering Clown fish colony (Nemo) and learn how they can change from female to male!

You may also spot a sea-turtle and hear how these regal creatures can live to over a hundred years old; very much the same as the mesmerizing giant clams on your venture!

The safari is likewise a perfect option for those who are a little less confident in the water.

Semi-Submersible Submarine Tour

Guests who prefer to stay dry can still experience the reef through the semi-submersible tour vessel.

Large underwater viewing windows provide close-up views of coral formations and marine life while informative commentary explains the reef ecosystem and species found around Hardy Reef.

Optional Introductory Dive

Both introductory and certified scuba diving experiences are available.

First-time divers receive full instruction from experienced dive professionals, while certified divers can explore deeper reef sections, coral bommies and swim-throughs where turtles, parrotfish, wrasse and seasonal marine life are often encountered.

During cooler months, migrating whales and dolphins are sometimes seen in the surrounding waters. 

Optional Certified Scuba Dive

When you’re already a worshipper of the underwater realms, as most certified scuba divers seem to be, you’re apt to know the legend of the Great Barrier Reef.

And at Hardy Reef, you’ll find the the stunning plethora of marine life and sheer magnificence of coral a new wonder to adore!

Along a great wall brimming with the most amazing species you’re likely to see, you’ll likewise explore pinnacles, swim throughs and bommies, (coral mountains) of epic magnificence.

For 30 minutes, you’ll hover over these incredible formations, as well as an ocean floor of giant clams, starfish and vibrant sea-feathers.

They’ll likewise be a multitude of rainbow reef fish to discover, with the usual suspects in the form of Angels, Parrots, Clowns, Wrasse and even a giant resident groper.

And during the cooler months, many certified divers are astounded to see a whale or dolphin swimming alongside their venture!

Optional Scenic Helicopter Flight

Guests can upgrade their experience with a scenic helicopter flight departing directly from the pontoon. These flights provide aerial views of Hardy Reef, Heart Reef and the surrounding Whitsunday Islands, showcasing the scale and colours of the Great Barrier Reef from above.

  • Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some people from scuba diving.
  • Participation is subject to a medical questionnaire completed on board with the tour operator
  • Minimum age for scuba diving is 12 years.
  • Flying after scuba diving: a wait of 12 hours is recommended after one dive, 18 hour after 2 dives and at least 24 hours after multiple dives, before ascending to an altitude of 300 metres or greater.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Vessels may operate in inclement weather such as wind and rain, where we deem it safe to operate according to our operational and safety protocols. If you choose not to travel in these circumstances, this will be considered a cancellation by you and standard cancellation fees will apply. You should check weather forecasts and request to amend your Booking within the permitted timeframes if the forecast on the date of your scheduled Journey is not optimal for your desired experience.

CANCELLATIONS & AMENDMENTS

Amendments permitted up to 72 hours prior to Journey commencement.
"Cancellations received: – more than 14 days prior to Journey commencement: fully refundable – 14 days or less prior to Journey commencement: cancellation fee is 100% of the Journey Price."

* Amendments are subject to availability and the following conditions (a) a change of date must be within the same season; (b) name changes are subject to the substitute person agreeing to be bound by our Booking Conditions in effect at the time of substitution; (c) the payment of any Journey Price difference (and any Journey Price difference must be paid by you prior to us confirming amendments); (d) you and any substitute person are not permitted to make further amendments; and (e) cancellation of the amended Journey will be subject to cancellation fees of 100% of the Journey Price irrespective of when notice to cancel is received.

PRICES

Journey Prices stated are in Australian Dollars ($AUD), are inclusive  of GST and are subject to change prior to you making a Booking. Your Booking Confirmation will confirm your Journey Price. Payments by debit or credit card are subject to a surcharge equal to the costs we incur  to process the payment.

CHILD FARES

Journey Prices for children are applicable to children aged 4 -14 years of age inclusive. Infants aged under 4 years of age travel free of charge, provided that some Journeys are not available to infants. You must advise us at the time of Booking if you intend to travel with an infant. Note that infant meals are not included on day cruises with the exception of ‘Great Barrier Reef Adventures’.

FAMILY FARES

Family fares are available for bookings that include a minimum of two adults and two children aged 4 to 14 years, must be booked at the same time to qualify for the discount, are subject to availability on selected routes and travel dates, may require valid identification for children to verify their age at the time of travel, are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other products, are subject to the standard change and cancellation policies of Journey Beyond, cannot be used with other discounts or promotions unless stated, are not applicable on certain premium services or during peak seasons, and by purchasing a family fare, you acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

If you book any Additional Services through us, you acknowledge that we will not confirm these Additional Services until we receive payment for these services. If the price for any Additional Services increases prior to us receiving payment, then you must pay the increased price otherwise we will not confirm the Additional Services and we will refund payments received by us attributable to those Additional Services. Child fare pricing and age limits may vary for any Additional Services booked through us. The Journey Price does not include any scuba diving activities, which are Additional Services supplied by Reef Safari Pty Ltd as principal. Any payments you make to us for scuba diving activities are accepted by us as booking agent only.

EXCLUSION

International and domestic airfares and airport/hotel transfers are not included in a Journey unless specifically stated. Costs associated with passports, visas, vaccinations, insurance, meals (other than those stipulated), emergency evacuation costs, gratuities, and all items of a personal nature are not included and are your responsibility.
