Australia's most exciting White Water Rafting experience is the Tully River. A unique way to experience the North Queensland rainforest with all the thrills and spills.

What to Expect

Experience one of Australia’s most famous white water rafting adventures on the Tully River, widely regarded as the country’s premier rafting destination for continuous action and powerful rapids. This full day rafting tour from Cairns combines a scenic rainforest journey with an adrenaline-charged river experience in the heart of North Queensland’s tropical landscape.

Your day begins with a late morning pickup from a central location in Cairns. Sit back and enjoy the 90-minute drive south as the route winds through sugar cane farmland, tropical creeks and lush rainforest valleys on the way to the town of Tully.

Upon arrival in Tully, there is time to purchase a light lunch (own expense) before continuing by coach for approximately 40 minutes into the rainforest-covered mountains of Tully Gorge National Park where the rafting begins.

At the river put-in point, you will meet your professional river guide and the rest of your rafting crew. After being fitted with a helmet and life jacket, the guide provides a detailed safety briefing and paddling instructions to ensure everyone understands the commands and techniques required on the river.

The adventure begins with a few smaller rapids to warm up before entering the more powerful sections of white water. The Tully River delivers long stretches of exciting Grade 3 and Grade 4 rapids that keep the action flowing from start to finish. Under the direction of your guide, paddlers respond to calls such as “paddle forward”, “get down”, and “hold on” while navigating waves, drops and churning currents.

Between the thrilling sections, calmer stretches of water allow time to relax, catch your breath and take in the dramatic rainforest scenery of Tully Gorge. Towering mountains, dense tropical forest and pristine riverbanks surround the rafting route, creating one of the most spectacular white water settings in Australia.

After completing the rafting section and reaching the take-out point, guests change into dry clothes before boarding the coach for a short transfer to the historic El Arish Hotel. Here you will enjoy a well-earned country pub dinner while sharing stories of the day’s rapids with fellow rafters.

Following dinner, relax on the return coach journey back to Cairns where you will be dropped back at your accommodation after a full day of white water rafting on the Tully River.

Prepare for the ultimate white water rafting adventure on the Tully River, where each twist and turn promises an exhilarating journey through pristine rainforest landscapes.
