Discover the magic of Tamborine Mountain after dark on a guided glow worm night tour. Walk through rainforest trails to Curtis Falls and see glow worms lighting the basalt rock walls while learning about local wildlife and the ancient volcanic landscape.
Step into the rainforest after dark on a guided Tamborine Mountain night tour and discover a side of the Gold Coast hinterland that few visitors experience. As evening settles over the mountain, your journey begins with a scenic drive through the lush hinterland, climbing towards Tamborine Mountain where sweeping views stretch across the Scenic Rim and out to the Gold Coast coastline.
Once inside Tamborine Mountain National Park, your guide leads a small group along forest trails using torches to illuminate the path. The rainforest comes alive at night. The sounds of frogs, insects and nocturnal birds echo through the trees.
The walk follows a gentle trail through eucalypt forest and sub-tropical rainforest towards Curtis Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls on Tamborine Mountain. Towering flooded gums rise above the track while staghorn and crows nest ferns cling to the branches overhead. Along the creek line, palms and ancient strangler figs create a dense canopy typical of this ancient volcanic landscape.
Curtis Falls flows over dramatic basalt columns formed by the Mount Warning volcanic eruption around 23 million years ago. The waterfall plunges into a natural rockpool below, creating the perfect environment for one of the rainforest’s most fascinating inhabitants — glow worms. Along the rock walls surrounding the falls, thousands of tiny glow worms create a soft blue light, transforming the gorge into a natural constellation.
During the walk your guide shares insights about the ecology of Tamborine Mountain National Park, its Aboriginal heritage and the unique wildlife that thrives here.
Glow worms are native to Australia’s east coast and require cool, humid environments to survive. The sheltered basalt gorge behind Curtis Falls provides the ideal conditions, making Tamborine Mountain one of the few places where visitors can see glow worms thriving in their natural habitat.
With the rainforest illuminated by torchlight and the glow worms shimmering along the rock walls, this Tamborine Mountain glow worm night tour offers a rare opportunity to experience the magic of the rainforest after sunset.
