Cairns Tablelands Tropical North Queensland
The Cairns Tablelands are also known as the Atherton Tablelands or the Highlands and the home of some of the most delicious assortment of freshly grown and harvested tropical foods that are exported to Asia and the rest of the world
Take a drive for yourself and get lost on the tourist trails lined by exotic tropical fruit farms, huge paddocks full of an array of different vegetables you may have never seen before, organic dairy farms offering fresh yoghurts and cheeses from the contented cows grazing in the rolling green hills.
Drop into the nut growing farms and pick up some freshly roasted salty macadamias for the drive or take them home and wash them down with the fruity wines and ports on offer by the local wine makers. Stop by the roadside for some freshly brewed coffee to enjoy with chocolates that are made from the locally grown cocoa plantations and available fresh from the farm gates or from the roadside vendors, local cafes and restaurants
The Atherton Tablelands are not only a foodie’s paradise but also the place to go to witness its sheer beauty or to try some rugged four wheel driving, mountaineering, swimming in waterfalls, visiting the local wildlife and exploring ancient volcanoes. For the visitor to the Atherton Tablelands you will need to set aside at least two day’s to experience everything there is to see and do in this great part of Tropical North Queensland
