Being immersed in this natural paradise just brings learning to life for children and adults.
A stunning two days in the pristine Daintree Rainforest.
Day 1
Your tour bus will pick you up from your accommodation in Cairns at 7.00am, Northern Beaches at 7.30am and Port Douglas at 8.15am (approx. times).
For those from Cairns and Northern Beaches you will have the amazing journey along one of the most scenic coastal drives in the country along the 30km World Heritage “Great Barrier Reef Highway”.
This dramatic scenery is unique as the road winds along the base of the Great Dividing Range as it steeply cascades to meet the shoreline of the Coral Sea.
You will arrive at the Wildlife Habitat Park in Port Douglas at around 9.00 am.
Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas
This award-winning wildlife park in scenic Port Douglas, North Queensland, Australia, gives visitors the chance to get up close to a wide range of local wildlife.
Set on 8 acres of land it is the perfect window to learn about the wildlife that inhabits this precious area of the world, the Tropical World Heritage area of the Daintree Rainforest.
With an Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation the Wildlife Habitat does also much work to help local injured, sick and orphaned wildlife.
You will also have a tea/coffee break here. Whilst you sip your drink you will be surrounded by the squawks of White and Black Cockatoos and Rainbow Lorikeets, the blinking eyes of a Tawny or Papuan Frogmouth, or a friendly peck on the derriere from “Bo” the Magpie Goose.
For a fun and interactive time with birds, we suggest upgrading to Breakfast with the Birds.
The Wildlife Park is set in an open and interactive environment allowing guests to mingle in a natural setting with the wildlife that you see.
With elevated boardwalks you are able to observe the animals up close. Under the auspices of a massive aviary, birds are allowed to fly freely in a naturally landscaped area.
You can hand feed the wallabies and kangaroos, see one of only 1200 Cassowaries that are left in the world or a rare Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo (yes, there are kangaroos that do live in trees!).
You will be able to have your photo taken whilst cuddling a koala, cradling a baby croc or stroking a python (optional extra).
You will then continue your journey to...
Daintree Rainforest Tours - Cape Tribulation Rainforest Tours
At the banks of the scenic Daintree River, Cape Tribulation you and your tour bus will catch the Daintree Ferry.
This is an experience in itself as this seemingly old-fashioned cable ferry carries a maximum of 40 vehicles across the river at time pulling itself along a cable that spans the width of the Daintree River.
It only takes about 5 minutes but the view as you look from the ferry down the length of the Daintree River is stunning.
Look out for those floating logs, if they have eyes, they could be the deadly estuarine or saltwater crocodiles that lurk in these waters looking for prey.
Lunch | Cape Tribulation Beach House | Tides Restaurant
Tides Restaurant is a beachfront restaurant located on the pristine sands of Cape Tribulation Beach at Cape Trib Beach House.
Choose from options such as Grilled Barramundi to Cajun Chicken wrap from Sweet Potato and Feta Salad to Beef Burgers, they have an eclectic menu with something to suit all tastes and dietary requirements.
You will be able to check into your selected accommodation straight after lunch.
In the afternoon you are free to partake in an activity of your choice, laze by the pool (depending on your choice of accommodation), soak up the tranquillity and pristine, empty beaches of Cape Tribulation or just laze with a book under a palm tree on the white sandy beach.
For those wanting a little more excitement there are additional tours and activities (extra cost) that you can partake in as mentioned above and below.
Additional Tours & Activities - Optional extras not available when staying at Heritage Loge
Please ensure you prebook any extra activities so you don't miss out.
This is an activity for the adrenaline junkies! Whizz on a zip line through the canopy of the Daintree Rainforest suspended by a wire and see the Daintree Rainforest in very fast forward.
This is a great family activity and one that will have you all screaming together with fun and excitement.
There are 6 runs with one being 20m (60ft) above the ground with an amazing 78m of pure uninterrupted zoom. You can be whizzing thru the rainforest at speeds of up to 45km/h on side by side racinglines with your friends and family.
If you are 3-103 years old then this activity is for you, and it will be one you never forget!
From Cape Tribulation the outer reef of the Great Barrier Reef is only a short 25 minutes ride away on your snorkel tour boat with Ocean Safari.
You will snorkel at two amazing locations on Mackay and Undine Reefs. The snorkel tour boat only takes 25 people at a time so the locations you visit are almost pristine as these are only used by this tour company.
The variety of marine life you will see is amazing, darting colourful reef fish, eagle rays, starfish and giant clams.
On most days you can swim with passing sea turtles as they nonchalantly swim and feed around the reef.
Your snorkel tour guide will point out the marine life to you and give you interesting information on the animals you see on your snorkel tour.
Please note the afternoon tour only operates during peak season periods.
What better way to admire the scenery around you than to go horse riding on the beach and in the Daintree Rainforest, wade through crystal clear mountain streams and gallop along the pristine sands of Myall Beach with Beach horse rides Cape Tribulation.
These 1.5 hours (approx) horses rides are great for the family (from 8 years old upwards). They even organise special couples horse riding tours if you wish to have just the two of you.
From beginner to advanced level the beach horse ride tours are designed to accommodate all types of riders.
With the more experienced riders at the front and the more inexperienced at the back and with at least two tour guides per horse ride everyone is catered for.
There are at least three parts of the ride where you can take the horse faster than walking pace.
There’s nothing to experience the joy of riding on horseback in a slow gallop along the edge of the Coral Sea on pristine golden sands.

- Alexandra Lookout
It is hard to image a more amazing panoramic sight than seeing the only place in the world where a rainforest meets the reef.
As you gaze out from the elevated Alexandra Lookout you will see the sparkling blue riverlets of the rainforest creeks.
You’ll see where the mighty Daintree River merges in different colours of aquamarine and turquoise with the Coral Sea after its journey from the Daintree Rainforest.
To the North over the top of the Daintree Rainforest canopy you can view Snapper Island and where you have just come from. Whilst admiring the view you might be interrupted by the electric blue flutter of a Ulysses Butterfly.
They also seem to like to view and this Lookout is well known to be a favourite haunt of theirs.
- Daintree River Crocodile Cruise
Your nature tour guide and driver will take you on a one hour interpretive tour through the winding river ways and along the scenic part of this World Heritage site along the Daintree River.
Your Daintree River tour boat is specially designed for the Daintree River with a flat bottom and a quieter engine to allow you to get closer to the mangrove fringed banks and with less noise to scare off wildlife.
The tour boats are stable to allow for everyone to move around comfortably, which is all important when trying to get the best photo of the basking crocodile.
The Daintree River and surrounds is home to an extensive array of amazing wildlife, many of which are only endemic to this particular eco system. This is the home of the estuarine or saltwater crocodile, so keep your eyes peeled.
Since crocodiles are territorial the nature tour guides know most of them by name and by territory “Scarface” is one of the stars of their tours.
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing one of these prehistoric magnificent animals up close and in the wild.
Your tour guide will also point out other reptiles, flying foxes, rare birds and colourful butterflies.
This Tropical World Heritage Region has an amazing diversity of nature and the area contains many unique features.
There are over 74 threatened plant species, 13 out of 29 species of mangrove and out of 19 primitive flowering plants, 12 are found in the area, with over 90 orchid species.
With regards to animals, there are 370 species of birds found in the area of which 11 are only found in this World Heritage area.
This area also houses 107 mammal species with one of the rarest, the tube nosed florious bat being only found in this small geographical pocket.
