Cairns Marlin Marina
As you leave the Cairns Marlin Marina you will cruise past multi million dollar super yachts that are owned by the rich and famous from around the world that have come to explore the Great Barrier Reef and the world Heritage Rainforests of Cape tribulation and the Daintree.
As you go past the recently restored Trinity Wharf Cruise liner Terminal you may also see ships that are taking passengers on a voyage of a lifetime to other exotic tropical destinations once they have toured the sights of Cairns.
Cairns Fishing Industry
The local prawn and fishing fleets are gathered just behind the Trinity Wharf in a location named Portsmith, and your captain can tell you a few tales or two about them and the species of marine life they catch in these fertile waters on the reef.
Next to the fishing fleet we have the pride of the Cairns fleet and they are the Australian Navy.
They regularly do exercises off the coast of Cairns for both military purposes and for the purpose of stopping illegal immigrants and illegal fishing.
Vessels in the Cairns Trinity Inlet
As you cruise along the Trinity Inlet your captain will point out boats of significance, some of which may have featured in movies others are shipwrecked and some just because they have a particular tale attached to them.
Cruise along a little farther and you come across the Cairns Yacht club which has great entertainment facilities and a well-loved lawn area that is a favourite spot for the locals for sunset drinks.
From here you see all the ship building yards the sugar and freight terminals and old work yards of years gone by.
River animal life
As you meander up the Trinity Inlet River you begin to notice the silence of only the purr of the boats engine and then you notice the abundant bird life and animal life that you did not seem to notice near the city centre.
Watch as sea eagles soar above searching for opportunities to swoop down on unsuspecting fish or crabs that they can take back to the young in their nests.
See fish jumping around in the water and see the ferocious salt water crocodile sunning itself on the banks of the riverside keeping its core temperature at an optimum level so it is ready at anytime to either attack or flee from man.
With the changes of tides and changes of seasons you will get to experience a number of variants as the inhabitants of the river adjust to the current conditions.

Christina
A great way to have an introduction to the history of Cairns and her waterway. As it is a calm water cruise it suits those that are not so keen on boats and a great trip for children or conference groups looking for a short outing. Twitchers love this tour as they get to see some very rare sea birds. Keep your hands inside the boat and keep your camera at the ready as animals will not stand still and pose for you.
