Kuranda tour from Cairns & Northern Beaches including Kuranda Scenic Train, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and VIP Boarding Pass offering 10% discount at Birdworld, Koala Gardens, & Butterfly Sanctuary.
You’ll start your Kuranda day tour journey with a pick-up in a luxury coach from your accommodation in either Cairns or the northern beaches.
Sit back as your professional driver gives an overview of what you can expect to see and do on your Kuranda day tour.
If you have chosen to travel aboard the Kuranda Scenic Train first when booking, you’ll first arrive at Freshwater Station where you’ll board your pre-assigned carriage on the historic Kuranda train.
Winding through tunnels, across bridges, past thick rainforest, breathtaking views, and waterfalls tumbling into deep ravines, you’ll understand how lives were lost during the construction of this magnificent railway line in the late 1800s.
The informative audio commentary brings the stories of the railway to life.
The Kuranda train journey takes approximately 90 minutes, which includes a stop along the way at the Barron Falls lookout.
Gold Class is offered on the following services:
9.55am departure from Freshwater station to Kuranda
3.30pm departure from Kuranda to Freshwater
Please Note: No Gold Class service is offered between Cairns and Freshwater Station. All customers are welcome to commence or end their journey at Cairns Station.
Gold Class inclusions:
Once you’ve arrived at Kuranda known as the quaint ‘Village in the Rainforest ’, you’ll have time to explore at your own leisure.
Heritage Markets – Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 3.30pm
Original Rainforest Market – Wednesday to Sunday, 9.30am – 3pm
You’ll find woodwork, handmade leather goods, pottery, glasswork, jewellery, and more.
Indulge in a sweet treat, paired with coffee made from locally roasted beans, at one of the many cafés, or put your walking shoes to use, venturing along one of the surrounding tracks; suitable for every age and fitness level.
Or perhaps you’d like to explore one of the top tourist attractions, including Birdworld, Australia’s largest Butterfly Sanctuary, and the Kuranda Koala Gardens.
Discounts are provided as part of the Kuranda VIP Boarding Pass; however, the final entry cost is at your own expense.
The Skyrail Cableway station is located near the bottom of the village centre, within easy walking distance.
Once again, your pre-allocated boarding passes mean you do not need to join the line at the ticket booth; you can proceed directly to the boarding line and begin the beautiful journey across the river and rainforest canopy.
The Skyrail cable way line is 7.5kms long, taking you up over the ranges from Kuranda, over the mighty Barron River Falls and down onto the coastal plain.
It gives you amazing views and magnificent photography opportunities!
Along the way you can look forward to two rainforest interpretation centre stops, to enhance your rainforest experience.
The first is at Barron Falls, giving you a second opportunity to take photographs of these magnificent waterfalls from the opposite of travel from the view you had on the Kuranda Scenic Railway.
This is also the location of a CSIRO rainforest interpretive centre that aims to educate and entertain all who visit their centre of the sensitive environment we all need to protect for our own survival.
Your second gondola stop is at Red Peak Station, where a free guided rainforest interpretation walk is held every 20 minutes along the 175 metre boardwalk, to help further your understanding of this fragile ecosystem.

Loved the Skyrail going up and the train coming back down and of course Kuranda Village in between. Went to see the birds and koalas , strolled around the market and enjoyed the atmosphere. In Skyrail ride met two lovely guys from Sydney . One of them was afraid of heights so i told him about the unfortunate incident at Arthur's Seat in Victoria where the suspension collapsed. I think that made their day, they suggested that I also visit Rotorua in N.Z. as they also have a lovely gondola ride. Shall put that on the 'to do' list.

We found the train trip up and the sky rail back quite interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed the river cruise at Kuranda. We were not that interested in the shops and found the area quite commercialised. It took some time to get back down by sky rail as there were so many people waiting. The transport services were very efficient.
Response From The Tour Specialists
Thanks for your feedback Jennifer. The Kuranda Day tour is one of the most popular tours on offer in Cairns. We are pleased you took the time to enjoy the river cruise and some of the lesser known sights of Kuranda.

A must do activity for all visitors to Tropical North Queensland. Definitely recommend the Diamond upgrade Gondola, it was spectacular (and shorter queues!). The train trip back we upgraded to First Class and was a very unique experience and worth the indulgence. We had a fantastic day.
