With a 11:00am departure you can enjoy a leisurely morning in Cairns grabbing breakfast at a local cafe or just enjoying a sleep-in before hopping aboard our ferry tour boat for the 45 minute cruise to Fitzroy Island.

Getting there will be half the fun as you watch the beautiful scenery pass you by!

Once part of the Australian mainland, Fitzroy Island now sits just off the coast south of Cairns and provides an idyllic tropical setting to relax an afternoon away in paradise.

There is a range of fun activities on the island with something to keep everyone happy, from snorkelling to hiking a trail through the forest to enjoy the incredible 360 degree view from the island’s summit. 

Fitzroy is also home to Nudey Beach (not a nudist beach), a small hidden cove with gleaming white sand that was voted in the Top 10 of the 101 Best Australian Beaches.

Take a short walk through the forest from the main beach to discover this hidden gem. 

You will have over two hours to spend on the island before the cruise back to Cairns, arriving back on the mainland at approximately 2:45pm.

Fitzroy Island 

With it’s idyllic mix of beautiful white-sand beaches, easily accessible coral reefs, rainforest hiking trails and a range of fun activities for kids and adults, there is good reason why Fitzroy Island is one of the most popular reef destinations for both travellers and locals alike.

The island was originally part of the Australian mainland and still forms part of a mountain range south of Cairns.

A large fringing reef wraps around most of the island and visitors can enjoy easy access to beautiful coral gardens by simply wading off the beach to snorkel.

The reef is home to a wide range of marine species, from tiny brightly coloured fish hiding amongst the coral, to large pelagic fish species that are a prized catch for fisherman. You can also see small reef sharks cruising above the reef and graceful sea turtles that seem to glide through the water as if they were flying.

The steep hike to the summit of the island will be rewarded with amazing 360 degree views from the peak, with the wide open expanse of the Pacific Ocean to the east and the lush green mountains of the mainland to the west and the bright azure blues and coral patches of the island's reef down below.
