Itinerary and Logistics

Convenient Pickups:
  • The half day tour includes pickups from accommodations in Port Douglas and Mossman. Self-drivers can meet at a designated pickup point in Port Douglas.

Detailed Schedule:

  • 8:40 am/9:15 am: Pickup at Port Douglas/Mossman accommodations.
  • 9:20 am: Arrival at the river snorkelling site, gear up and prepare for the river drift.
  • 9:35 am: Begin the trek through the rainforest to the river start point.
  • 9:40 am - 11:50 am: Engage in river drifting, starting with a safety briefing and swimming test, followed by the drift experience.
  • 11:50 am - 12:10 pm: Wrap up and enjoy light snacks.
  • 12:10 pm - 1:00 pm: Return drive through the scenic sugar cane fields back to your accommodation.

  • While we still need to drive you the last bit, this is a great option if you’re travelling up from Cairns, or simply wanting a more flexible day.
  • Mossman: this is the closest meeting point to where our tour operates, and a great option if you’re planning to visit Mossman Gorge or travel north to the Daintree. We meet guests at George Davis Park Mossman, in front of the toilet block (under the giant trees). Pickup is approx. 20 minutes after our Port Douglas pickups
  • Pickup point for guests staying outside Port Douglas & Mossman is the Wildlife Habitat carpark

  • We don’t swim with crocs!
  • You should always be Croc-wise in Croc country; that is why you can rest assured that our tour operates in a very safe, Croc-Free stretch of water.
  • Crocodiles use the water, sun and shade to maintain their preferred body temperature of 30–33°C.
  • Where we swim is too clear, too cold at 16-22°C, and too shaded for crocodiles.
  • The cool water is one reason we provide you with a very fashionable wetsuit to use during your tour.
  • Shorts to swim in, we recommend wearing a shirt to swim in as well.

As this tour is weather dependent, it may be cancelled in conditions of heavy rainfall or extreme weather. If this occurs, an alternative date will be offered, or you will be refunded in full.

  • Cancellations outside of 72 hours from departure — no charge
  • Cancellations within 48-72 hours before departure — 50% charge
  • Cancellations less than 48 hours before departure, or no show — 100% cancellation fee applies
  • Date changes are free of charge, but must be received by email or phone, 48 hours prior to tour departure
  • All changes are subject to availability and made at the discretion of the operator

Do we still run the tour if it is raining? Generally yes!

However, it depends on how much rain and also where the rain is falling.
1-5mm of rain will hardly wet the ground in the tropics, so please don’t worry if this is the forecast.

Guest requirements:
All participants are required to complete a medical questionnaire and liability release form.
 
Swimming Ability: all adults must be
confident swimmers, and comfortable in moving water. Some flexibility may apply
when river levels are low; please contact our office to confirm.
 
Not suitable if you have limited mobility or injuries
e.g: difficulty walking, injured or limited movement of knees, ankle, back, shoulder etc
 
Not suitable for anyone who is pregnant

Due to risk of falling on stomach, sudden jarring movements and impacts
 
Max recommended weight limit is 120kg/264lb

Due to limitations of our equipment.
A good level of fitness and mobility is required if you are near or over this weight
 
While conditions do vary, all participants associated with this booking should be able to:
 
Walk without having to stop or sit down to rest for up to 20
minutesMossman 
Lay on your stomach and paddle for extended periods
Walk up an incline equal to a flight of stairs without stopping
Swim/dog paddle 15m without stopping
Climb up tree roots to exit river, equivalent to climbing a 1.5m
ladder
Easily stand up from a sitting position on the ground, without
assistance at least 3 times in a row.
