Your day starts with the pick up from your Cairns, Northern Beaches or Port Douglas Accommodation. Although it is a private charter and the departure time can be somewhat flexible, recommended departure time from Cairns is at 7am to make sure you will have time to take the most of your day. You will be travelling north along a beautiful coastal drive that was just recently named the BEST drive in the world the “Great Barrier Reef Drive”. You will pass iconic Palm Cove beach, Rex Lookout, Port Douglas and Cooya Beach and have views to Double and Snapper islands.
Once you have made it to the Daintree River, you will be enjoying morning tea and biscuits before taking an hour long Daintree River Cruise which is definitely one of the highlights of your private charter rainforest tour. Your professional river guide will make sure you don’t miss any estuarine crocodiles, snakes, birds, lizards and butterflies while cruising along the mighty Daintree River. You will also learn a lot about the plants and trees that grow on Daintree River banks.
After the river cruise you will hop back into your comfortable air-conditioned vehicle and head even deeper into the Daintree Rainforest. This tour operator has permits to take you on all rainforest boardwalks inclusive on Jindalba, Dubuji, Maardja and Kulki walks. It is on these walks where you will have the best chances of spotting the elusive endangered bird cassowary, monitor lizards, pythons and electric blue Ulysses butterfly.
Interpretive and knowledgeable commentary is provided and you are welcome to ask anything you may want to know about the Far North Queensland’s rainforest plants or animals.
By the time you have finished the educational walks you should start feeling a little bit hungry. Delicious lunch is available at Cape Tribulation Beach House.
After lunch you will travel even further north along the famous unsealed Bloomfield track which is the coastal road connecting Cape Tribulation to Cooktown. You will drive about 7 kilometres until you will notice water over the road that is where you will stop to take a short rainforest trail to the pristine Emmagen Creek swimming hole. You can go for a refreshing swim or just enjoy the fruit, billy tea and damper. On the way back towards Cairns you can also stop at Cape Tribulation beach which is where the rainforest seamlessly meets the reef.
To top off your amazing day in the Daintree Rainforest you can choose to take a break at Daintree Ice Creamery where you can sample exotic tropical ice cream flavours. Their motto is not to sell the “ordinary” flavours so don’t be surprised if you don’t find your usual vanilla flavour from the menu- this is the place to get adventurous!
