Once you arrive at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure Park take a walk through the Melaleuca forests, thriving wetlands and view hundreds of freshwater and saltwater crocodiles from the safety of a man made boardwalk.
Although you are completely safe all throughout the day, you won’t be able to resist the shiver down your spine as you watch two of these ferocious creatures powerfully brawl with one another in a territorial battle.
At 2:00pm it is time to see your first show; the snake show. During the snake show you will become familiar with some of the deadliest snakes on the planet and some unique to the Cairns region such as the Eastern Brown snake and the legendary Taipan.
Pet a snake if you are game, and let the kids get involved with the fun-filled snake trivia and have your photo taken with a python draped around your neck.
At 2:30pm it is time to board your crocodile wetlands cruise. Although the cruise may seem calm at first you will soon be greeted by a lagoon full of hungry crocodiles who keep their beady eyes on the occupants of the boat as you cruise the lagoon.
Watch as they compete for their afternoon snack. and yes crocodiles can jump so keep your arms inside the boat at all times.
Luckily, you are not the snack they are after but watch as they ferociously devour meat offered to them by your boat captain!
At 3:00pm it is time for the most anticipated event of the day, the Crocodile Attack Show. Watch the daring (or some might say stupid) crocodile handler stomp around in a small crocodile-inhabited pond stirring up the croc to make a photo worthy appearance.
Your heart will jump out of your throat as the crocodile lunges ferociously at the handler; you will be relieved to see that it is the offered meat he is after, not the handler himself.
During the crocodile attack show learn everything you need to know about the feared salt water crocodile and watch him display notorious moves such as the ‘death roll’ and the ‘head shake’ (used to strangle, drown and kill prey).
The kids will love every minute of this exhilarating experience and you too will be amazed by this terrific show. Once the show is finished, have your photo taken holding a baby crocodile — if you dare.
At 4:00pm the pre-historic Cassowary feeding begins. Cassowaries are large endangered birds that are unique to the Cairns region. Without these magnificent birds we would not have the World Heritage Rainforests that we have today.
Watch these magnificent birds devour pieces of fruit whole!
Finally at 4:30pm it is time to wake up the sleepy koalas for their breakfast (Koala Talk). Watch these cute cuddly creatures wake up from one of their many daily naps, and have a chance to give a koala a cuddle — make sure to get a photo!
This is where your half day Cairns crocodile tour ends. Sit back and enjoy the lovely ride back to your Cairns accommodation.
