What To Expect

Welcome to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, Hartley’s is one of the oldest running tourist attractions in the Cairns region. The business began in 1934 as a tea house for weary motorists, traversing the recently opened road between Cairns and Mossman. Legend has it, the original owner Pop Evans, entertained motorists by feeding Charlie the resident crocodile while scones cooked in the wood stove, and become the first person in Australia to perform crocodile shows for the public. Eighty-eight years later, Hartley’s world famous Crocodile Attack Show is as popular as ever. Hartley’s was also the first place in Australia to breed crocs in captivity. Work on crocodile conservation at Hartley’s Creek Zoo attracted worldwide interest.

Documentaries produced at Hartley’s helped arouse public interest and sympathy for crocodile conservation, leading to the protection of wild crocodiles in 1974. By now, the Zoo had established a venerable pedigree as one of north Queensland’s leading attractions. Renovated in 1987 by the Freeman family, the zoo remained at its original site until 2002 when the brand new Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures opened 500m south of Hartley’s Creek, delivering authentic crocodile experiences in a new sustainable eco-attraction.

Over the last 20 years, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures has continued to grow offering visitors a suite of innovative, up close wildlife experiences, along with the regular introduction of new wildlife displays.

During busy periods, additional wildlife presentations will be scheduled in. Check blackboard at Admissions on arrival.

In between shows or instead of a show, you are welcome to explore the 2500 metres of boardwalks and pathways winding through Melaleuca Wetlands, Eucalypt Woodland and Riverine rainforest, enjoying a wide variety of native and exotic animals.

All wildlife exhibits open to public viewing including the Komodo Dragon, Alligators, Cassowaries, Wombats, Koalas, Emus, Lizards, Kangaroos and Wallabies. Capacity limits apply to the Gallery of Living Art – Reptile Display.

Boat cruises: we do not take bookings for boat cruises, Your boat time will be allocated upon your arrival. The duration of the boat cruise is approximately to 20 minutes.

KOALA PATTING PHOTOS

• Singles: $21.00 - One person stands next to a Koala on a branch and gives it a pat.
• Couples/family: $29.00 - 2-5 persons stands next to a Koala on a branch and give it a pat. 
• Photo sessions 10.30am and 1.30 pm.

Any Koala Holding photo allocation availability will be decided on the day at the park. Koala holding cannot be pre booked.

Breakfast with Koalas

Daily from 8.30am to 9.30am must be prebooked

• A great way to start your day! Enjoy a hot Aussie breakfast overlooking the beautiful lagoon at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures.
• A delicious cooked plated breakfast, including scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, Pork Chipolata sausages, Croissant, toast Jam, Cereal with a glass of fruit juice, bowl fresh fruit salad, brewed tea or coffee. Vegetarian option available.
• One of our Wildlife Keepers will join you on the dining deck between 9:00 am and 9:30 am with a friendly Koala. A great opportunity to pat a Koala and ask questions.
• After breakfast, enjoy the scheduled wildlife presentations and a boat cruise on Hartley's Lagoon.
• Koala holding (subject to availability on the day) or patting photos (can be pre booked) are available at an additional cost.

Big Croc Feed - A Personalised Guided Tour With Our Experienced Crocodile Handler

Daily 10.30am or 1.00pm

• 45-min. personalised guided tour, up to 4 participants.
• You pole feed a huge saltwater crocodile.
• Learn interesting facts on fresh and saltwater crocs.
• Meet and hold a juvenile croc for a souvenir photo.
• Receive a signed certificate and chilled water

Minimum age of 16 years to participate in the Big Croc Feed Experience.

Non-participating adults & children may watch family/friends doing the Big Croc Feed. (Standard admission rates apply.)

Zootastic 5 - Our Exciting Interactive Guided Tour Featuring 5 Iconic Animals

Daily 9.30am or 1.30pm

• One hour guided tour for a max. of 6 participants.
• Pat a koala and take a souvenir photo.
• Feed fruit to a cassowary, Hold a python or lizard.
• Pat a wombat, and feed friendly birds and wallabies.

No child price for this tour.
The minimum age for children to participate in this tour is 10 years old. (Must be accompanied by a paying adult who is also doing the Zootastic 5 experience)
Only paying participants may attend.

Reptastic 5 - If You Like Them Cold and Scaly, Then This Is Your Ultimate Tour

Daily 10.45am

• One hour guided tour for a max. of 6 participants.
• Hold a python or baby crocodile for a souvenir photo.
• Get up close with giant pythons and american alligators
• Meet some of our colourful lizards, snakes and tortoises.
• Optional upgrade ($25) to include close encounter with a komodo dragon
• Free bottle of chilled water

The minimum age to participate in this tour is 10 years old. (Must be accompanied by a paying adult who is also doing the Reptastic 5 experience)

Mammal Magic - Meet Some Cute Australian Marsupials. Ideal For Younger Children

Daily 11.00am or 1.15pm

One-hour interactive guided tour with one of our dedicated Mammal Keepers.
Feed, pet and hold some of our most adorable  mammals and Australian marsupials
Meet our cotton top tamarins
Wallaby feeding and pat, with a talk. Meet a Wombat and learn about their behaviours.
The experience includes a Koala talk and souvenir Koala patting photo.

The minimum age to participate in this tour is six years. (Must be accompanied by a paying adult who is also doing the Mammal Magic experience)
