A Day Out On The Great Barrier Reef! Visiting 3 Stunning Locations
Posted on August 27, 2018 by Sophie Tabouel
As a Cairns Tour Specialist you want to experience everything that you have your guests experience so that you know firsthand the ins and outs of all the local tours and attractions and the best things to see and the best things to do in Cairns and Tropical North Queensland before recommending them.
As I have always received great feedback for this Great Barrier Reef tour that leaves from Cairns Marlin Marina I decided to spend the day on the reef experiencing it for myself and I can honestly say I absolutely loved it!
Silverswift offers a full day Great Barrier Reef trip departing from Cairns to 3 (three) outer reef locations so you have the opportunity to snorkel and scuba dive three very different coral reefs that support differing marine life. A really great option for those who want to see as much diversity as possible and make the most out of a once in a lifetime Great Barrier Reef tour.
Early Start For Great Barrier Reef Tour from Cairns
After handing in our tour vouchers to the boat crew we were welcomed with a light and yummy morning tea, a very good way to start the day indeed. We had these amazing cheese bread sliders with tea & coffee, omg I could have eaten the whole tray haha.
During our cruise out to our first Great Barrier Reef location I attended an Introductory Scuba Dive briefing where the instructors took us through safety rules, hand signals and skills. I also had to fill out a Medical Questionnaire to ensure I was fit and able to scuba dive. These Medical forms are vital and could save your life and the life of others so please do not fudge these forms.
It was over an hour of cruising before we arrived at our first coral reef location where I was to experience my first introductory scuba dive for the day.
I made my way to the back of the dive boat where I geared up and our dive instructor re-ran us through some skills test (you have to pass the test before you can actually dive). I passed so I was on my way to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef. I have dived before but I always get so excited and I just can’t wait to get in these beautifully crystal clear waters to see what awaits me below the surface…
As soon as I was in the water I saw how clear it was, absolutely breath taking! We descended down to about 8-10 metres and then we were diving through massive walls of coral, coming across giant clams and an abundance of marine life. I can’t explain that feeling I get once in the water, it’s like you are entering another world and you are surrounded by beauty and amazing inquisitive and colourful sea creatures.
Post dive – I went to the front deck and sun-baked while we slowly made our way to the second coral reef location (Fish Bowl) and before I knew it, it was lunch time!
I really enjoyed lunch, I always do. We were served a hot and cold buffet with a great selection of salads, cold meats, prawns, fresh bread and tea & coffee.
The weather that day was amazing and whilst snorkelling at the second bommie site we had the sun shining through the water and it really brought out the bright vibrant colours of all the different hard and soft corals. The view was amazing!
I really enjoy scuba diving so our third and last dive and snorkel site was Moore Reef so I decided to do a second dive as this reef has such a good reputation. I really should have pre-booked my second dive as availability can be quite limited on the day but thankfully I was lucky enough and managed to get the very last dive spot for the day. Because the weather conditions were that great I wanted to do it all over again.
For afternoon tea we had a few choices of cakes with tea & coffee before we made our way back to Cairns. It was a smooth cruise and one of the best days I’ve experienced on and in the gin clear water of Australia’s magnificent Great Barrier Reef.
Overall, I had a really fantastic day, and would do it all over again in a heart beat! I must say thank you and acknowledge all the Silverswift staff onboard, they were highly professional, fantastic, friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you all for such a wonderful day and hosting me on your award winning boat for a beautiful day on the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns Queensland Australia.
