Kids Holiday Ideas Adventure Zipline

With the school holidays just around the corner, here at The Tour Specialists we thought we’d put together a handy list of kid-friendly tours and activities to keep the little ones happy and busy. Below are some of our favourite family friendly tours close to Cairns that are sure to be a hit with kids big and small.

Action-packed Canyoning Tour with Behana Days

For kids older than 10 who love to swim and climb, the Behana Days Canyoning tour in Behana Gorge is a must-do these school holidays! Starting at the impressive waterfall at the top of Behana Gorge, you will swim, slide, abseil, cliff-jump and zip-line your way down the creek. Adventurous kids are sure to love the thrill of these exciting and challenging activities, but mum and dad are safe in the knowledge that there is always a second, less extreme route around all of the obstacles just in case the kids aren’t feeling up to it. The fun and enthusiastic guides are sure to keep the whole family pumped up throughout the day, and the yummy snacks, fruit and lunch that are included will keep everyone’s energy levels high. There are a few free-time sessions throughout the day where you can just sit back and relax, soaking up the beauty of Behana Gorge, or grab a snorkel set and jump in to spot the many fish, yabbies and eels that call the crystal-clear pools home.

Behana Days provide pick-ups from within Cairns city. Be sure to take along some shoes with good tread that you don’t mind getting wet. GoPros and other waterproof cameras are also more than welcome so you can capture all the action on the day!

High-speed flying fox zip line rides

Let gravity provide the fun as you zip-line down the eastern face of Mt Whitfield with amazing views looking over the Cairns Airport and out to the ocean and mountains across the bay. Located in the heart of Cairns this is a quick and easy activity to keep the kids busy and happy and also get in some exercise as you need to walk up before you can fly down! Reaching speeds of 60-70km/h there are multiple zip lines meaning rivalling siblings can race each other to the bottom. As well as the 300m zip lines, there is abseiling, scenic bush talks and great views on offer so there is something for everyone.

Full day Green Island Adventure

Being so close to the reef it would be a shame not to take advantage this natural wonder during the school holidays, when the whole family can enjoy a day exploring the colourful underwater world of the coral gardens around Green Island. This tour includes a high-speed catamaran transfer from Cairns to Green island and snorkelling gear or glass bottom boat tour, as well as free wifi on all vessels – for those teenagers that just have to check their phone or else hell breaks loose. Lunch can also be added for a small extra charge. There are also many optional extras such as introductory scuba dives, Seawalker helmet diving, the Marineland Melanesia wildlife park on the island and scenic helicopter flights if you really want to spoil them!

Wet and Wild Tube Rides in Cairns Harbour and Trinity Inlet

If your kids are little adrenaline junkies, then this fast and bumpy ride around the Cairns Harbour and Trinity Inlet on an inflatable tube is a perfect option to kill some time and get the heart racing these school holidays. The kids can choose how calm or crazy they want their ride to be. For those who like a calm ride it is a great way to see the inlet with views across the water to Cairns, and for those who want a faster ride they’re guaranteed to have a good time as the crew tries their best to spin and sling you off the tube.
