A day with Synergy on turquoise waters…

My mum and I decided to spoil ourselves for a day…and spoilt we were!

Firstly, we were greeted by two friendly crew members, the skipper ‘Anthony’ and the deck-hand ‘Scott’. We exchanged names with fellow guests and before we knew it, the twelve of us were laughing and sharing stories, whiling enjoying a cup of tea and coffee, along with a variety of delicious pastries.  We sailed out of the inlet with the pretty view of the Port Douglas hill side and the many moored boats. We completed our snorkelling experience form, while Scott gave us a run down on the days’ happenings. Once we had changed in to our swimmers a few of us took the opportunity to sit on the trampoline that is located at the front of the catamaran. Here we enjoyed the fresh breezes and the spectacular sparkle of the sun rays on the water. After a two hour sailing experience we anchored at Tongue Reef. Scott distributed our fins, snorkel and Lycra suits (dependent on season) and gave us some easy to follow instructions on how to use the equipment. For those who wanted to swim the 25 metre distance from the boat to where the beautiful coral gardens grew, they could, otherwise Anthony transported you by dinghy.

Tongue Reef

Tongue reef offers unspoilt coral gardens, providing a magical array of rich colours and interesting marine life. Here, the blue tropical waters reach a depth of fifteen metres, lined with soft and hard coral gardens covering the reef edges and many bommies. Giant clams, several species of sea-cucumbers and resident turtles are all present in these waters. After swimming for some time Scott retrieved a massive sea cucumber, as seen in the photo. This amazing creature had a mouth and was moving its slippery body through my hands while I was holding it. To pull myself away from the magical underwater garden of purple and blue coloured coral, and the many marine creatures, including; Nemo Clown fish, Rainbow fish, Parrot fish, and large Puff fish, was a real challenge! This enchanted place had me mesmerised by its beauty – the Great Barrier Reef is truly exquisite. The thought of the scrumptious lunch, that I was soon going to indulge in, is what prompted me to board the boat.

  • Breast of chicken in a semi dried tomato, caper, garlic, seed mustard & oregano marinade

Friendships are formed

As the vessel only takes a maximum of 12 passengers per day, it provides you with the opportunity to get to know everyone on board, if you like a chat that is. Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery of the blue waters, Low Isles Island and the glistening sun on the water. On the day, everyone was enjoying a laugh together and taking photos with another. Numbers and emails were exchanged and best of all friendships were formed. It really felt as though we were travelling with a group of friends – separating the Synergy experience from your average every day tour.

We swam for another hour, before boarding the boat, showering and readying ourselves for a glass of bubbles up the front of the yacht for the ride home. It is fantasitc as you get three hours at the Reef to explore. Watching the afternoon sun on the water and enjoying the sea spray on our faces on the way home was just another highlight to our day. This is nothing less than a personalised, fun and a friendly day that would suit anyone looking for something a little bit different, a little bit unique and that little bit special – Synergy Sail and Snorkel!
