National Geographic Scuba Diver Specialty Course
Posted on May 22, 2013 by Colleen
Become An Underwater Scientist In Cairns On The World Famous Great Barrier Reef !
Passions of Paradise are running a 2 day speciality course for certified PADI scuba divers from the beginning of June 2013. This is a great opportunity to get involved and be a part of the elite group of internationally recognised scientific conservation programs on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
You will spend the first part of the course in a classroom with a National Geographic Marine Biologist who will give you an insight to the world of Marine conservation and broaden your knowledge of the aquatic world.
As part of the National Geographic Scuba Diver Specialty course, you have a chance to perfect your buoyancy and set off on your exploration project. Whether it’s a survey of plant life or a study of water temperature variation, this project is your chance to think, observe and document just like the scientists who dive for conservation and discovery employed by National Geographic. You’ll polish your navigation skills, then dive into an aquatic life exercise such as The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s (GBRMPA) Eye On The Reef program or you may wish to choose an exploration project of your own.
The Eye on the Reef Rapid Monitoring survey is a collection of data taken daily from various Diving Operators on the Great Barrier Reef. The data is then used for research into conservation and management of the general use of the Marine Park. Divers record their observations on an underwater slate and then submit their findings into a database.
Included in the course are all materials, workbooks and reef day trips with scuba diving. Upon completion you will be presented with a certificate and become a PADI National Geographic Specialty Diver.
Over the course of many years Passions of Paradise has formed a strong association with The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and have been valued participants in government reef monitoring programs such as Whale Watch and Bleach Watch. They have also hosted many research expeditions on board. To find out more about the Passions of Paradise Reef tours check out this link:
