The skipper chooses the days two snorkel and dive locations based on the underwater visibility, the marine animal sightings such as Humpback Whales and Dwarfe Minke Whales, the winds, currents and weather conditions making this Cairns based Great Barrier Reef boat the perfect option for those keen divers and snorkelers who do not want to be based on an over night live aboard boat but still want to experience the best parts of the outer Barrier Reef in the best conditions over several days.

The Boat Journey To The Outer Barrier Reef

Probably the newest boat and most modern boats on the Cairns Great Barrier Reef launched in August 2011; Tusa 6 or T6. Is a 24.5 metre custom built boat that can travel at up to 20 knots. This purpose-designed vessel offers guests comfort and style while travelling to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. The 90 minute boat ride to the days two reef locations are made entertaining with flat screen TVs providing reef education and an informative briefing from the boats crew on your days diving and snorkeling schedule. The spacious interior design allows you to roam freely and stretch your legs throughout the vessel and you can move around and get some nice photographs as you watch the green mountains fade into the distance and you enter the azure aqua waters of the beginning of the Cairns Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

Boarding Time From Cairns

Your day will begin with boarding at 7.30 am and departure at 8:00am from E Finger at the Cairns Marlin Marina in Spence Street Cairns where you will board the luxury vessel and enjoy a welcome tea or coffee. The skipper will have by then decided what Reefs have the better conditions for the day and let everyone know in the skippers brief in the morning before the safety presentation.

Meals On Board

During the 90 minute fast boat ride to the Outer Great Barrier Reef kick back and enjoy the lovely views as you pass Green Island and learn a bit more about the world's largest living organism on the flat screen TVs fitted throughout the vessel. Once you have arrived at the Outer Great Barrier Reef you will visit two pristine dive and snorkel locations (out of a selection of 15) and spend a total of five hours snorkeling or scuba diving some of the most amazing underwater scenery you have seen in your life. After some time you will be very hungry after spending time snorkeling and exploring in the salt water so a buffet lunch will be awaiting your arrival back to the boat. The buffet lunch is full of all sorts of foods to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters and will fill you full of much needed energy for the rest of your day's adventures. Vegetarian options available by advising at the time of booking your Great Barrier Reef trip. During lunch a Marine biologist gives a presentation about all the different fish, coral and other marine life you might find whilst snorkeling in the water. At lunch you may also purchase alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, ice creams, chips and lollies.

Great Barrier Reef Snorkeling And Scuba Diving

Tusa has two sun decks for relaxation on the top back deck or aft of the boat and on the forward deck of the boat. Both can be accessed at all times so you can have the feel of the fresh winds of the Great Barrier Reef flowing through your hair.

If you have never scuba dived before then you have a chance of attempting two introductory dives allowing you to explore the depths of the ocean like a fish underneath coral bommies discovering more colour and species than you're able to just skimming the surface of the water. If you are more comfortable snorkeling then join a marine naturalist on a snorkel tour and learn a bit more about the sea creatures and coral that you are seeing.

If you are a certified scuba diver then you may choose to do three dives during your day on the Great Barrier Reef. If you are a more advanced scuba diver then you can choose to have your tanks filled with a blend of nitrox to make your dives last a lot longer. Tusa also has dive guides available for those newer divers wanting to enjoy the amazing scenery and spot hidden wonders whilst not having to worry about navigation and finding your way back to the boat.

Tusa 5 offers premium features that give passengers extra choice and comfort. After your day is done, enjoy a fresh hot or cold water shower. Prescription masks are available upon request and only the best quality snorkeling and scuba equipment is used on this boat. Wetsuits and Lycra suits are available if needed and come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. There are also underwater photographers on board the boat that are swimming around and taking pictures of you through out the day which you can purchase on the journey back to Cairns which always a bit of fun so its always handy to have your credit card or some cash.

The back board on the boat is a hydraulic lift that lowers down into the water making getting in and out of the water a breeze and the air-conditioning in the boats saloon is a nice relief from the hot weather outside. Although Tusa 5 was built with a capacity to hold 120 passengers, it only carries 60 per day to ensure personalised service and attention to its guests and also has a high level crew ratio to guests.

The owners of Tusa Dive have over 22 years of experience doing reef tours to the Great Barrier Reef and were some of the few that pioneered the dive industry in the Cairns region in the eighties. Because they have so much knowledge and experience of the area they can ensure that both snorkelers' and scuba divers' expectations are met and exceeded while discovering the Cairns Great Barrier Reef on Australia's Queensland coast. Sun worshippers, snorkelers and scuba divers will be equally entertained while venturing to the Great Barrier Reef with Tusa Dive from Cairns.

Just make sure you book early as this is a very popular Cairns Dive and Snorkel boat.
