great barrier reef tours: sunlover reef cruises
Sunlover Reef Cruises
Whether you are an experienced scuba diver or a non–swimmer, Sunlover Cruises has designed a way for everybody to truly experience one of the great wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef. Upon boarding the vessel you enjoy a complimentary morning tea then, depart at a very civilized time of 10:00am.You begin to relax and be welcomed by the fun and knowledgeable Sunlover crew who genuinely love their jobs! After cruising from Cairns on their very comfortable, roomy and stable twin hull boat, you arrive at Moore Reef, renown as a pristine reef and popular with experienced divers. We were greeted by not only the beautiful seabirds but also the resident sea turtles that call this reef home. As if on cue, they popped their heads up to welcome us to their piece of paradise.
On their newly refurbished pontoon, the activities that Sunlover Reef Cruises offer include both a glass bottom boat tour, and a semi–submersible boat tour. Allowing you to get up close to the colourful array of corals and beautiful fish without even getting wet! There is also, on the pontoon a touch tank that houses a variety of sea creatures that the dive crew bring up daily for everyone to get a really good look at and feel of — another thing for non–swimmers. The children love this as well as they have their very own wading pool where they can safely make friends and even feed the fish that are swimming all around and underneath them! For those who would like to get even closer to the wonders of the underwater world, Sunlover Reef Cruises offers “Seawalker”. It is so easy. With the Seawalker helmet dive, you can breathe and walk at the same time so you can experience the same thrill as a scuba diver (non–swimmers are welcomed and encouraged, you can even wear your glasses and your hair does not get wet).
You come face to face with an endless number of different fish as well as the star of Moore Reef, “Wally” the giant Maori Wrasse, that just loves a tummy rub and have his photo taken with his new friends by the Sunlover professional photographer that he knows so well.
Those able to snorkel are given lessons on how to use the equipment and can either venture out on their own or go on a Guided Snorkel Adventure with one of the knowledgeable Dive crew to learn more about the precious Great Barrier Reef.
For those more adventurous and certified, Scuba Diving is also offered.
Even if you are not certified, but can answer a simple medical check questionnaire and are at least 12 years old you can go on an Introductory Scuba Dive with a dive instructor. This is a great way to try out your scuba skills without having to complete an entire course and just see if you would like to pursue this activity a little more.
With all of these exciting activities you must not forget to enjoy the Tropical Hot and Cold buffet lunch (including seafood, so don’t make too many friends down there!) that is served onboard the very comfortable and air conditioned boat. There is a full bar on board and complimentary Tea and Coffee is served. Fresh water showers and change rooms are available on the pontoon as well.
After around 4–5 hours on the reef, it is time to head back to Cairns, with some afternoon tea and a nice cool drink from the bar!
Also, be sure to check out the pictures in the photo display the professional photographer has for sale. A great keepsake and memento of a truly wonderful day!
