cairns family activities & tours: hartley’s creek crocodile adventures
Situated on the magnificent coastal drive between Palm Cove and Port Douglas, Hartley's Crocodile Adventures is the best place to see crocodiles and native wild life. Set in the foothills of the McAllister Range, in World Heritage Rainforest, Hartley's has a diverse range of habitats being Melaleuca Wetlands, Riverine Rainforest and Eucalypt Woodland.
Visitors are provided with an innovative approach to viewing and interacting with the wildlife in a safe and natural environment.
Be inspired by conservational oriented educational activities from professional wildlife keepers in both morning and afternoon presentations.
As you arrive, you will be greeted by Mango and Lexy, the brilliantly coloured Ecalectus parrots.
A series of boardwalks provide an eco friendly way to view the various native wildlife. The walk through tropical aviary is a highlight, as are the various crocodile enclosures with the huge beasts inside. Paul, being their largest at 4.5 meters and weighing in at 700kg, he is roughly 60 years young. Or there is Louie who is renowned with the ladies even after suffering from a rare bone disease that resulted in having half his jaw removed. But don’t be fooled, his bite still packs a powerful punch.
Marvel at the colourful water birds, prehistoric looking lizards, the grand Cassowaries and the cute and cuddly Koalas in a truly natural environment.
Gain insight into the operation of their crocodile farm. Learn how farming contributes to the conservation of wild crocodiles and their habitat.
Enjoy the snake show that hosts the most venomous snakes one being the inland Taipan that can kill 250,000 lab mice in one single bite. Learn how to administer first aid. Or have your photo taken with Tangles the Python.
The Wetlands cruise on Hartley’s Lagoon is a must see. There are about 20 crocodiles in the Lagoon, Goldie and Bob being the most dominant. Watch these beasts launch themselves to the side of the boat and out of the water as the keepers hand feed them with chickens on a pole.
At the Crocodile Attack Show in the afternoon you will meet Bart a 2.8 metre croc. Watch him perform natural hunting behaviors including a live death roll and head shake.
Impress your friends with a photo of you holding Fluffy the baby crocodile. Or kick back and relax at Lillies Restaurant overlooking the lagoon and enjoy a great coffee, light snack or delicious meal.
Don’t forget to grab a souvenir at the fully air–conditioned gift shop on the way out. Just make sure you’re early so you don’t miss a thing.
